About ThaiDrive
An independent guide and practice tool for foreigners who live and drive in Thailand.
Who writes it
ThaiDrive is written and maintained by Javier Sánchez, who lives in Phuket. Where a guide says Verified, it comes from something he did or saw himself at the Department of Land Transport or at Immigration in Phuket, for example what each office asked for at the counter and what it charged.
What it is for
Most foreigners who live in Thailand convert a foreign licence. Those who do not meet the requirements have to sit the tests, and the official material is hard to find in English. ThaiDrive collects the steps, documents and rules in one place and offers a free practice test with 476 questions, the official road signs and road markings.
What it is not
ThaiDrive is independent. It is not affiliated with the Department of Land Transport or any government body, and it is not legal advice. Rules and fees change and differ between offices, so confirm with your local DLT office before you act.
How the guides are made
Every guide lists its sources and its last update date. How we label facts, handle sources that disagree and correct mistakes is described in the editorial policy.
How the site is paid for
ThaiDrive is free to read. Some guides may contain partner links, always marked as such, and we only list services we would recommend to a reader. We do not run display advertising. See privacy and cookies for what the site measures.
